Now, the rats are ready for work

Lab rats seated, learning and practising
It is nearly seven months, the lab rats from across the region seated in the Media lab, being trained at Nation Center Nairobi about new journalism.

The rats have learnt many things. At their start, writing for Print Media by the trainer Owino Opondo was their breakfast for almost six months. And the result has been fruitful up to date. Editors and trainers can witness that.

Now, the rats are in the hands of the guru broadcast trainers. And the fruits from this  are projected to be more better than ever. The hands of Booker Nancy, Laban Freizer, Prof Levi Obonyo are nullifying the rats' future.

As normal, they learn and practise, since it is only practice that makes perfect. Anything learnt never gets lost.

Fulgence Muhawenimana, one of the Wb. FS goup, he says, he was inspired to make jingle and things went well. Learn, practice and finally make it!

Fulgence says, life is full of changes. For that, trying everything means a lot to him.

Apart from editing audio pieces of his group , he also made jingle seem to be sweet to whoever listens to it. And improvement is a lesson that he never misses in his life.

You may want to listen to one of their practice, carried out by a group. Click here to listen to the audio for the whole Bulletin. An this was their first time to do so. More and more is coming!

Not only are they eager to carrying out radio pieces, but also they are always ambitious to know different things that can positively shape their future career.

You can listen to a sample of the jingles he made.

There is still a long way to go, but "where there is a will there a way."

Not only Media practitioners want the already passed Media Bill to be amended.

The Media Bill 2013, already passed by the Parliament, has brought mixed reactions from different Kenyans. Now, the ball remains in the President's hands.
Some Kenyans want the Parliament to amend the Media Bill, 2013 to let media enjoy its freedom as opposite to serving their only own interests.
According to Eric Mganza, Kenyans need to know what is happening in their country. And, as he says, this will happen only if the fourth estate remains with its freedom. For him, MP’s should know today’s Kenya differs from the one in 20 years back. In his exclusive interview with this newspaper, Mganza says: “By doing what media is supposed to do, Kenyans are united on other things they are supposed to do,” Says Mganza.
The Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta declined to sign the contravention Bill and returned in the house.  And only two weeks Kenyan journalists took streets protesting the Bill they have termed ‘draconian’. But as the days go by, it is apparent that the battle against it has overwhelmingly become wider from media practitioners to the public.
Kenyan MPs have any times been accused by Some Kenyans of passing Bill s for their own interests. And so, was this Media Bill that has already passed by the same house.
Some Kenyans say they passed the Bill without thinking about the role of media in the today’s Kenyan society.

Speaking to umusanzu10.blogspot.com in an open live interview, David Malaba says "fining media could be a way of muting the voice of the voiceless." And for him, Kenya has been back into dark days where it was only government doing anything without being watched by anyone.
Articles media member have been complaining about include among others, fines for both journalists and media house which they say are to silencing the media by making them fear be fined.
However, the Kenyan constitution provides freedom of media and restricts the government to infringe in its freedom.
After being passed by the house, the Bill is now waiting for being assented by the President who has so far expressed his comment on it saying that the Bill is now constitutional and democratic.
