NUR IS ABOUT TO SOLVE THE HOSTELS SHORTAGE

The National University of Rwanda is now trying to solve the problem of the Students living far from the Campus. The NUR is known as having various faculties and this pushes  it to receive every year a large number of students who finish their secondary studies to continue their university studies in this institution.

Now, NUR is building new hostels which will host a large number of students. Some of the Students living far from the campus say that they will benefit more from those new hostels being built, once they are finished. ˝I live at Tumba where I use about three kilometers. So, once I get a room in the campus, it will be a good moment to use the time I use to reach my home concentrating on my studies˝, SIBOMANA Pie, a third Year student in Modern languages.

The existing hostels in the campus are not able to receive all students. According to some of them, the fact that they live outside the campus seems to be a barrier to their studies. Because of their living far from the campus, they do not use a lot of time being concentrated on studies, because they know that they have a lot time to use, so that they can reach their homes.

Silas LWAKABAMBA, the Rector of NUR said in the general meeting that he held with Students in last week that even though, NUR is building those new hostels, they will not also be able to host all students, but at least a big number of them will get rooms and this will help them in various ways,be it economically be it in social welfare.

As regards the NUR, the problem of the hostels which is not enough for students remains a big deal, not only for NUR staff, but also for Students. This is the reason why, nowadays this institution has put in a long effort to solve thais problem.

As some of the NUR students say, being hosted inside the campus will be a great chance and opportunity for them to be well plunged in all NUR programs. “I live far and when it rains i automatically miss the lecture of that day and other issues organized in the campus. So, once I get a room in the campus it will be a great chance for me”, Added SIBOMANA.

The NUR has about 8 different hostels located in various areas, including those which are for girls and boys. But the problem remains always the same that they are not able to host all students ,because of a large number of students that the University disposes.”The new hostels have the capacity of receiving only five thousands students and I think we will need to make a good selection”,Runyange Medard, the Dean of students at NUR, stated when interviewed.

When observing various buildings under construction in the campus,one can think that the students living outside the campus will all be hosted. But, this is not true, because, the University staff says that all new buildings are not for hosting students. The hostels will only host about five thousands students.

This project of building new hostels comes as a part of the solution for the students living outside the campus after a long time students saying that they always come across various problem related to living far from the campus. New hostels  will particularly supply the existing ones that are not able to receive all students who, mainly for those who stay out the campus whereby some of them use a long time to reach their homes.
