When technology and Internet came, most people embraced them. Some thought all things will go well. And this, of course, was a settled argument.

It is true. On one hand, technology has done a lot in today’s world. Things have been made easy. Businesses have been technologised as well.

But on the other hand, street book vendors are among people who are highly affected by the digital era.

Kimani Benson has been on the street since 2010 selling a variety of books. 

For him, whether technology has done a lot or not, reading culture should be a routine for all, since reading is source of knowledge. And only books can provide that.

There is fear that when the youth go online, they don’t read important things, but visit social media. Is this a better use of Internet for intellectual purposes?

Now, can we sit down and say Kenyans are on their good track on reading? Benson suggests this. Whether this digital era will boost the reading culture in the country, is question that time will tell.
